What is Delta-8? All You Need to Know

In recent months, delta-8 products have been taking the cannabis market by storm. Delta-8’s newfound popularity has left cannabis users asking a variety of questions. Is delta-8 legal at the federal level? How is it different from other forms of THC? Is it related to delta-9? Is it FDA approved?

This psychoactive cannabis compound is one of over 100 cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant. In recent times, cannabis companies have begun producing products that highlight concentrated amounts of delta-8, which has opened up discussion surrounding the compound.

In this article, we take a deep dive into delta-8 and decipher all you need to know about this fascinating cannabinoid.

What is Delta-8?

Delta-8 is one of the many psychoactive compounds found within the cannabis family. It is closely related to delta-9 THC, which is a compound that produces the “high” most people think of when they hear cannabis, THC, or any other marijuana related term.

While delta-8 is similar to the high-producing delta-9, it has a slightly different chemical structure which causes it to have less potency and different effects on the body. It’s also important to note that while the delta-9 cannabinoid is mainly derived from the marijuana plant, delta-8 is mostly hemp-derived.

Is Delta-8 legal?

There are still decisions to be made on a state level in regards to the legality of delta-8 THC. However, it is legal on a federal level. This came as a result of the 2018 Farm Bill that legalized hemp products containing less than 0.3 percent delta-9 THC. This differentiation between the hemp and marijuana plant is what helps to guarantee the legality of delta-8.

Is Delta-8 approved by the FDA?

While delta-8 is legal on the federal level, it has not yet been approved by the FDA. Only small amounts of delta-8 occur naturally in hemp plants. As a result, cannabis companies create concentrated forms of delta-8 THC by converting delta-9 into delta-8 synthetically. This has caused much controversy in the cannabis industry and placed a large importance on consumers purchasing lab-tested, safe products.

As it is the case with any cannabis-related purchase, it’s always important to source your cannabis products safely. At Formulated Wellness, we ensure that all of our delta-8 products are made of pure, lab-tested delta-8 cannabis oil – including our Fuggin 8 Delta 8 Candy and D8 Disosable Vape.

What are the benefits of delta-8?

In comparison to delta-9, delta-8 produces a more gradual and mellow high. It also produces the euphoric, relaxed, and pain-relieving effects that most marijuana products have. Because it has less of a pronounced high, it has become a popular choice for cannabis users looking for a more laid-back state. Many people also report delta-8 causing less of the paranoia effects that are normally associated with marijuana.

Delta-8 Looking Forward

While it isn’t yet FDA approved, many cannabis users are taking advantage of delta-8 as a safe way to produce a relaxed and euphoric high. Delta-8 is a compound that has all of the elated and pain-relieving cannabis effects, but in a more mellow overall state.
